May Ta is currently working on her BFA degree in the School of Art’s Illustration program. She is an international student from Vietnam who actually decided to transfer from Fullerton because CSULB has a strong art department. May comes from a family in which almost all of her family members have careers either in science, engineering, or technology so May’s decision to change her major to Art did take them by surprise. The first year they stopped supporting her but like she said they still love her and still fed her.

Closer is a collaboration between Carly Lake and May Ta in which they express the intimacy with other people as well as intimacy with ourselves but even though there are these connections at the end there is some type of loneliness. The art pieces in the gallery were all displayed in a way in which it made it feel like we were in an actual room. May explained that they wanted that feeling and the chair in the middle is so it looks like it belongs to an artist that left the room behind. Some of May’s work creates the windows of the room in some we can see people and in other windows there is a sense of loneliness or emptiness.

One of my favorite artwork was that made by Carly lake which was what represented the bed of the room. The blanket was covered with letters between Carly and her lover creating a sense of intimacy and their existence. May’s “U” is a connection to Carly’s blanket where we can observe the connection of people in some it looks like connection to maybe someone or something that does not exist.20160914_15145120160914_150757
